Build, create, broadcast, archive. Then Eventually Destroy.
The concept for Binary Killer dates back many, many years when I wrote the first draft as a short story only to edit into a screenplay and being potentially very low budget to make I had plans to turn it into a short film. Needless to say that never happened… but it still could… maybe.
Over the years I have tweaked the story and only recently when I started creating this zine I wanted to find a way of fitting it into the narrative of my other written works set within my own universe of supernatural and paranormal stories. In this zine, shares some similarities (very slim) with my second novel but ultimately names were changed while writing the novel and so these are two separate entities.
TThe goal of the zine is to create an interactive element where readers take on the role of a clerical agent within the Archive and it is your job to decipher the binary writers that were discovered at a grim crime scene and extract as much information from the case as possible. As this was a cold case from 1986, there was a lack of knowledge on how to decode the messages and or lack of police interest. Provided is a binary translation guide but there is nothing stopping you from using online tools, unless you are really, really board and want something to do. Enjoy this work of fiction and be sure to check out the zines trailer and a further discussion video coming soon.
